Fans favourite James re-signed for the Blades in November 2011, agreeing a short-term deal to prove his fitness after a series of injury problems had blighted his progress. His contract was extended in January 2012.
The former England striker enjoyed a goal-laden spell at Bramall Lane between 2007 and 2009, netting 34 goals in 60 starts.
Before signing for the Blades for a record £4m fee the first time round, he played for Blackburn Rovers, Southampton and Everton, whilst he also represented Stoke City, Glasgow Rangers and Blackpool before returning to the Lane.
