Sabella makes final preparations

Posted on: Thu 29 Jul 2010

Alex Sabella has named his squad to travel to Sheffield for Sunday's friendly with the Blades.

The former Blades legend has also confirmed that he will be flying in separately especially for the match and as a former United player is looking forward to returning to Bramall Lane.

Pictured with Oscar Malbernat, who will head the Argentine delegation to Sheffield holding a Blades shirt, Sabella commented: "These are players that I think will excite the supporters. I expect the players to be hungry to perform and impress as this is a big showcase for them.

"It will be interesting to see how they adapt to English football. The next Messi or Boselli etc could be amongst these players."

The match against Estudiantes is expected to draw in a number of Premiership scouts, who will be casting an eye over these hotly-tipped prospects.

One familiar name to fans of South American football will be Marcos Francescoli - son of Uruguayan legend Enzo Francescoli. The creative player has already had a spell in Italy and impressed last season.

Sabella added: "I have a big match to prepare for immediately after England and so have had to bring a selection of experienced players together with some talented youngsters. Players such as Veron may still attend but after the World Cup commitments, it may be sensible for the team I am selecting for the first match of the season not to travel to England.

"I can assure fans, however, these are excellent players and will be in my first team throughout the season. I expect a number of these players to become very familiar names throughout the world."

Sabella's position with Estudiantes is currently the subject of global media attention with him tipped as the successor to Diego Maradona for the Argentine team. It could be his final game in charge for the club.

Sabella has confirmed such links are flattering but he insists United fans can be sure he will be attending the game on Sunday.
