Gaffer's preview

Kevin Blackwell's look ahead to Saturday's visit of Queens Park Rangers knowing that victory is vital after a pointless week:

"We have to try and win, simple as that, but of course we are looking forward to it - it's a home game. Okay, we lost a bit of heart because of losing those two away fixtures but they were both only by 1-0 so we were always in the games, and I have told the lads to keep believing and working hard.

"Overall, I have been pleased with our defence, even in the last two away games, and I think that the game will come down to what happens in the two penalty-areas, whoever defends well or takes the chances.

"Our home form has been almost exemplary, we haven't lost here since early November, so we can go into the game confident that we can perform.

"That terrific run has kept us in the hunt when we can't buy a win away from home and I hope we can maintain it. We might not have the selection options available that we might like but we will keep playing for every point available.

"Despite all that has gone wrong for us we are above the likes of Reading and Preston who were in the top six last season, and we are still only four points off again this time with a few weeks left to go."

With so many Blades players out of contract in a few months time United are, in most cases, waiting until the summer before opening negotiations.

On QPR
"United did turn down an approach for me from them in the summer but I was happy to stay, they have moved on so good luck to them.

"We face another new manager, this time in Neil Warnock, and we know all about the problem that can cause because it is the fourth time that we have faced that this season.

"Rangers have been inspired by that, just as Palace were when Paul Hart took over, and the way they played against us last weekend was apparently the best they have played in weeks.

"Any manager joining a new club will talk to his players and expect to get an immediate positive result, and if he doesn't he will be in trouble. He will set his team up like he did at Palace before he left so we know what to expect

"People will make a lot about Neil coming back although he has already been here this season, and he will enjoy trying to put one over on us.

"But he made it clear the other week that he considered that the Palace fans were the best he had worked for and I wonder what United fans will make of that considering that he is supposed to be a Blade - I'm sure they will bear that comment in mind.
