We want a boost

Posted on: Tue 23 Sep 2008

Gary Speed is grateful that the Blades have the opportunity to bounce back from the defeat at Norwich, when they face Arsenal at the Emirates in the third round of the Carling Cup on Tuesday.

Speed feels the tie is an ideal chance to gain confidence ahead of Saturday's Championship clash with Watford at Bramall Lane:

"It is a nice distraction to have and we will be looking to go there and put on a real show to give us a lift ahead of the league game at the weekend.

"We aren't going there to make up the numbers, but we all know how good Arsenal are. It is crucial we put the wrongs from the last few matches right, so we can hit the road running against Watford."

Speed, who has enjoyed some success against Gunners, especially during his Bolton days, admits the Blades will need the rub of the green if they are to net a cup shock, although he is sure they will give Arsenal a run for their money:

"It is never easy against teams like that, but you have to be committed and work hard and sometimes you get the bounce of the ball that can see you nick a win.

"We are just looking to go there and work our socks off and hopefully it might just be our night."
