Jamie applauds hat-trick feat

Posted on: Fri 03 Sep 2010

Although he is now a well established Championship performer, Jamie Ward still has a soft spot for one of his former clubs.

The forward holds the record of netting the last hat-trick by a Chesterfield player at Saltergate, although Danny Whittaker has already achieved that feat at their brand new B2net stadium, which the pocket rocket admits is pretty impressive:

"It was a while ago since I got that hat-trick against Aldershot, so it was nice to see Danny get one for them the other week.

"When I scored the third goal I just didn't know how to celebrate, so I just did a whirl and threw my fists in the air, but next time I will do something better like jumping into the crowd."

With the Spireites now having left their old ground Ward's hat-trick venue is now consigned to history but he has already been to its replacement:

"I watched them against Middlesbrough in the Carling Cup and it was an entertaining game in a lovely new stadium - it would be nice to play there sometime soon.

"The players get changed there for training so they are really familiar with their new surroundings which is important when you move grounds. It is such a nice place has lifted everyone, too."

"Saltergate wasn't a bad place at all, it was just a really old fashioned ground, so they were ready for the change.
