Good start for new boys

Posted on: Tue 31 Aug 2010

Debutant Stephen Jordan was impressed with the performance of the back four in Saturday's victory over Preston.

Jordan's belated Blades bow was part of a new-look defence that also included goalscorer Jean Calve, but the players secured a clean sheet and three points in Gary Speed's first home game in charge.

The left back said: "As a back four we played well, defended well and all the players want to impress the new manager. We're all behind Gary, who is a good appointment, and want to do well for him and ourselves.

"It was an enjoyable game on Saturday. First and foremost, our job is to defend but if we can get forward and help the attack then that is a bonus. There were spells in the game when both Jean and I went forward from the flanks because we know that we'll get cover from the midfielders."

Jordan adds: "Hopefully the first win will kick-start the season. I thought the lads were unlucky at Middlesbrough and could have easily taken a point but at least we got what we deserved against Preston."
