It's up to us

Posted on: Tue 09 Mar 2010

Nick Montgomery has echoed Kevin Blackwell's frustrations about United's recent away form and appreciates it needs eradicating quickly:

"The manager has every right to be critical of our performances away from home. It is disappointing to have performed like we have at home and then not backed that up with our away form.

"It isn't until we go a goal down that we rally but I thought in the second-half at Palace we were unlucky not to get back in the game. We are working hard on the training pitch and with twelve games to go we remain in a decent position.

"Everybody is frustrated because we know where a couple of away wins over the last few weeks would have put us."

Montgomery is also warning the Blades not to take rock-bottom Posh lightly on Tuesday night, but knows that a win would put the pressure on the teams currently occupying the play-off places:

"It will be tough at Peterborough, I make no bones about that. They are scrapping for their lives and we must match that to start with, then hopefully our football and ability can bring us through the game.

"We are still within touching distance of the top-six and although we have missed opportunities recently, we go there full focused on three points.

"Every game from now on in is massive depending on where you want to be. I remember how well we have finished the season in the past and we need to replicate that this time around."

Meanwhile, the tenacious midfielder is putting contract negotiations to the back of his mind to devote himself to United's fortunes on the pitch:

"We are still talking, but I am just concentrating on the next twelve games, then we can assess things at the end of the season.

"I want to stay, but at the moment I need to focus on trying to get this club in the play-offs."
