Following his full Blades debut at the weekend, Jordan Stewart is optimistic about United's promotion aspirations and believes the squad will improve.
Stewart replaced Andy Taylor at left-back against Doncaster and he believes the Blades squad not only has enough ability but a never-say-die attitude that will become invaluable as the season progresses:
"We could have nicked a winner at the end but 'Sully' has pulled off excellent saves from 'Hendo' and Kyle Walker.
"We worked well and closed them down from the start. I thought we were quickly on the front foot and disrupted the way they play.
"The last two games have shown the character within the squad, but we now must start using our killer instinct."
The former Derby man is also looking to build on his Bramall Lane bow and reserved special praise for fellow new addition Richard Cresswell, who cracked ribs in scoring United's leveller.
Stewart said: "I got my chance and now it is up to me to hold on to the shirt. I enjoyed the game, but it is really disappointing not to keep a clean sheet.
"There are a lot of new faces here, but as time goes by we will gel together and get stronger. I played with 'Cressy' at Leicester and he certainly deserved his goal for all his hard work."
With the October international break now in effect, Stewart believes each player has something to strive for personally and says United will be working hard on the training pitch to eliminate some recent defensive mishaps:
"We have a quality squad here and the lads that are injured will be pushing for a place when they are fully fit, so it is down to each individual to keep their place.
"We are in good stead and no doubt the lads will be coming out all guns blazing at Scunthorpe.
"Our position at the minute means we are there or thereabouts, so now we need to push on and cut out the mistakes that have cost us points recently."
