I'm a quick healer, says Monty

Posted on: Wed 07 Oct 2009

Nick Montgomery is determined to stay in upbeat mood, despite admitting his disappointment at the results of his knee injury, which will rule him out of action for two months.

The midfielder, who had been an ever-present in the league this season, says the knock could have been a lot worse and admits knee injuries are something of an unknown quantity to him.

Monty is also optimistic that the current international break will give other members of United's walking wounded the chance to recover:

"The news is a lot better than I thought it would be and with it being medial ligaments instead of cruciate it is the best result I could have hoped for.

"It happened in an innocuous tackle after about 30 minutes at the weekend. I felt the knee bend in and although I wasn't in agony it did feel floppy and weak. Having not had a knee injury before I had nothing to compare it with and that is why I carried on until half-time.

"The doctor has told me it will be six to eight weeks so anything in front of that schedule will be a bonus.

"It is disappointing because I have been feeling fit and strong and enjoying my football, but I have to be careful not to comeback too soon. I have been advised to do very little for a couple of weeks before starting rehab, but I am usually a quick healer.

"Luckily we have got a lot of midfielders and although the treatment room is busy at the moment the break will give some lads the chance to get fully fit."

Looking at the Blades' fortunes on the pitch and the position in the Championship, Montgomery says United aren't getting the rub of the green, which makes the current league standing slightly frustrating:

"After beating Sheffield Wednesday we were confident so a couple of a draws and a defeat in the next three games wasn't what we wanted or expected.

"We were perhaps slightly fortunate against Ipswich, but we should have beaten both Swansea and Doncaster.

"Things aren't quite going the right way for us and Doncaster's goal proved that. It makes it more difficult when teams come and defend, but if we had turned a couple of those draws into wins we would have been second, so we must keep the belief."
