Glen Little is going to continue with his patient approach to assist United's promotion push.
The winger, who had a hand in two goals in the midweek draw with Ipswich after coming off the bench, spoke to the media in the build-up to the South Yorkshire derby with Doncaster.
"I've not really done too much so far, I've been waiting patiently on the bench but, to be fair to the boys, they have got the results so you don't expect much to change," he said.
"There's been a couple of occasions when I have been kicking my heels to get on and show what I can do, fortunately I got a chance against Ipswich to try and make things happen and luckily it came off."
Little has spoken to boss Kevin Blackwell and the duo have come to an understanding about when and how the 33-year-old will be used.
"It's a long season, the Gaffer has told me that he will use me sparingly and I probably only have a couple of seasons left in me," said Little.
"I know I won't be getting up and down the wing for 40 odd games, I am at that age where I can influence a game for a certain period of time and that is what the Gaffer wants from me.
"I think I can do more but when you haven't played a lot of football you are still a bit rusty.
"I had a good pre-season, trained well and feel really comfortable in the squad but game time can only help.
"The other night I helped set up a couple of goals for the team to get back into the game and I was happy with my contribution, hopefully I can do more as the season goes on."
