Bromby wants more goals

Posted on: Wed 29 Jul 2009

Pre-season goal machine Leigh Bromby is hoping to find the target when the season kicks off for real in little over a week's time.

The defender, who signed a two-year deal in the summer, has scored in the last three friendly encounters.

He pounced to convert Andy Taylor's cross to open the scoring at Lincoln City on Tuesday evening and also struck the top of the crossbar with a header in the second half.

"It's not often that I get to score many so it's nice to contribute," said Bromby. "The results have gone our way and we've produced some good performances. I'm pleased that I've chipped in with the goals from right-back and helped get the team going.

"I scored a couple in my first season with United but I've hardly been prolific. Playing at right-back gives me a little more freedom and hopefully I can keep chipping in when the season starts."

Bromby has been used predominantly in the right-back berth in pre-season, a role, he says, he doesn't mind fulfilling.

He adds: "I've always said that I don't mind where I play. We are quite strong in the middle with Killa and Morgs doing well and if that means I have to play at right-back then so be it."

Of Tuesday's game at Sincil Bank, the 29-year-old added: "Pre-season games are not easy and Lincoln was a good test - they gave it a good go. These matches are about fitness and getting us ready for Middlesbrough."
