Jordan eyes opportunity

Posted on: Mon 27 Jul 2009

Fresh from grabbing two goals at the weekend, Jordan Robertson says he is relishing the rigours of pre-season and hopes to continue to progress through the ranks at Bramall Lane.

Robertson fired home a late double at Gigg Lane after replacing Jamie Ward at half-time, and despite the recent arrival of £3 million striker Ched Evans, the Academy graduate is looking to compete for a first-team spot:

"It was great to get on the pitch and I was hoping to get on the scoresheet, so fortunately I popped up with a couple of goals.

"We have got some good strikers here and with Ched Evans joining the club it will make it that bit tougher - but all I can do is score goals to build my confidence.

"The pre-season work has been hard but it provides a base fitness that helps you progress during throughout the season.

"I can only take things game-by-game, and the goals won't hurt my chances. This is my hometown club and I would love to play for the first-team and score plenty of goals."

Looking at the bigger picture, the powerful frontman believes the forthcoming season could throw up some fascinating results, and admits there is one game in particular that catches his eye:

"There is no doubt that the Championship is going to be very competitive and that is not just because of the teams that have come down, although going to a full St James's Park is a footballer's dream."
