Andy Taylor met his new team-mates for the first time just before boarding the flight to Hungary for United's pre-season training camp.
The left-back, brought in on Wednesday for an undisclosed fee from Tranmere, says the trip will help him settle into life as a Blade.
"It all happened very quickly this week," he said. "I got a phone call on Monday night, did the medical and the contract the next day and everything was done. Then it was on a plane and off to Hungary.
"It was all done very quickly but as soon as I knew United were interested my mind was made up.
"With us being away and together as a team a lot of the time I'm sure it will help me settle in - it seems as though they are a great bunch of lads and I can't wait to get started."
Taylor and the rest of the squad completed their first serious training session in Budapest on Friday morning.
Further sessions, before Saturday's three-team mini tournament with Ferencvaros and Zalaegerszegi, are planned.
The new signing is expected to play at least 45 minutes at the Florian Albert Stadion, especially with Gary Naysmith still battling back from a cruciate ligament injury.
Taylor adds: "Obviously I knew of Gary's injury before I came here and hopefully that will give me the chance to get a few games under my belt.
"Gary has got tremendous experience, he's played a lot of years in the Premiership and hopefully I will learn from training and playing alongside him.
"I've only just met the lads and I've had a chat with him,and I'm sure we'll speak more in the coming weeks."
