Kyel feels wanted

Posted on: Wed 15 Jul 2009

Kyel Reid feels he will develop into a better player under the leadership of Kevin Blackwell.

The winger, 21, who had options to join other clubs, signed for United following a conversation with the Blades boss.

"I'm really pleased to have signed. Although I spoke to other clubs, as soon as I found out from the Gaffer what his plans for me for next season are it excited me," said Kyel, who also had an option to stay in the Premiership with West Ham.

"He told me that he wants to develop me as a player because he feels that I have the ability.

"There weren't any ifs and buts, I quickly made the decision to come here. The manager said he had been watching me for a couple of years, in West Ham's reserves and the loan spells, and that he had been after me for a while - it's nice to feel wanted.

"He says he wants me to create and score goals. I'm mainly a left-sided player but I can play on the right - my right foot is not bad - but pace is my main asset."

Of course, the former England youth international is no stranger to South Yorkshire, despite being a Londoner. He played 26 times for Barnsley in the 2006-07, a loan spell which preceded similar deals at Crystal Palace, Blackpool and Wolves.

He adds: "I know the area quite well and when I was on loan at Barnsley I stayed in Sheffield - it is important to settle down."
