New boys' first words

Posted on: Sat 04 Jul 2009

The first two summer signings stepped out with their new Blades team-mates this morning and afterwards spoke for the first time about their reactions to becoming Sheffield United players:

Lee Williamson
"It is really good to be here. Although it's been a tiring first day, as expected, I got off to a good start and have been welcomed.

"The fact that a lot of Watford players have come here was not a massive factor in me choosing to come here but it always helps when you join a new club.

"It is the same when you go out on loan - I knew some people at Preston when I went there last season

"This is a big, strong and organised squad and I watched them in both semi-final play-off games when I was suspended. I could tell that everyone knew their jobs and what they were doing.

"I believe that the squad is good enough to challenge for promotion again, otherwise I would not have signed."

"I am pleased to be a United player. Quite a few clubs were interested in me and I spoke to them, but when I heard what Kevin Blackwell wants me to do and saying that he wanted to develop me as a player, I was pleased to hear it.

"He said that I have the ability and that he just needs to get it out of me, so there were no ifs and buts for me - it was a good decision.

"This is where I am now, I'm settled and won't be going out on loan or worrying about my future for a while, so my aim is to do what the manager wants me to do - play games, score and hopefully do well."
