Beattie on his first season
After 22 league goals, United's leading marksman James Beattie happily reflects on his first season at Bramall Lane.
A summer arrival from Everton, Beattie scored plenty of spectacular strikes and he gave sufc.co.uk a run down on his personal highlights, although one more than most remained in the forefront of his mind.
He said: "Obviously scoring my first goal in front of the Kop was a massive thing for me after only signing at the club the week before and then to score the winner against West Brom was another crucial goal.
"Despite those, my free-kick against Sheffield Wednesday is definitely my number one from last season purely because of the timing and importance.
"I then scored probably a better free-kick at Burnley a few days later and at this point the lads were playing without any fear, which certainly helped us finish the season on a high."
The England striker has always had an eye for the sublime, although he insists scoring goals and the Blades winning remained his main priority throughout a mixed campaign:
"I have always had set-pieces in the locker and have been successful with them throughout my career. I don't just shoot on sight though, we always assess what's best for the team.
"It's a great feeling scoring goals, but is even more sweater when the team is doing well. There is an excellent team spirit here and everyone works hard and wants the best for each other."
