Long progression impresses Wilson

Posted on: Wed 05 Oct 2011

Teenage goalkeeper George Long was singled out for praise from Danny Wilson following Tuesday's derby victory over Rotherham United.

The 17-year-old, who starred as the Academy reached the final of the FA Youth Cup last year, has played in both of United's Johnstone's Paint Trophy ties this season - victories over Burton Albion and the Millers.

Of Long, Wilson commented: "He has done absolutely fantastically, it easy to sometimes forget just how young he is, his size and stature belies his age."

"There is no doubt he has a great future ahead of him. He needs games like this, he needs to make big decisions at times in games and I thought he did that very well against Rotherham. He looked very assured at times."
