Boss hails mighty Quinn

Posted on: Thu 17 Dec 2009

After scoring the clincher against Crystal Palace, Stephen Quinn has come in for a positive appraisal from Kevin Blackwell.

Blackwell is happy to have a player with that kind of versatility that Quinn offers, whilst the Blades boss is also hopeful of more goals from the Dubliner.

"The left-side of midfield is possibly his best position and every player favours a certain role," says Blackwell. "But he knows and appreciates what the team need and he is able to carry out different instructions.

"When Gary Speed was playing last season I played Quinny on the left, but when Speedo was out we needed his energy in the middle.

"Quinny has great energy to get up and down the flank and he will probably be able to get into scoring positions more often.

"He has got three goals already this season and after getting seven or eight last season, hopefully he will be able to get into double figures, which will be a great contribution from a midfielder."

Meanwhile, the Gaffer has thanked winger Keith Treacy for his efforts whilst with the Blades, after allowing him to return to parent club, Blackburn Rovers:

"Keith, like any youngster, has his ups and downs during what was a difficult time for the club.

"Saying that, he was new to regular first-team football and I can't have too many lads on learning curves in the team at the same time, because experience is vital."
