Carney too hot for Bahrain

Posted on: Wed 10 Jun 2009

David Carney completed ninety minutes and scored the second goal as Australia celebrated their World Cup qualification with a 2-0 success over Bahrain in Sydney on Wednesday.

Carney, an unused substitute at the weekend when the Socceroos drew 0-0 in Qatar to seal their World Cup Finals berth, played a starring role in the national stadium.

That will have been noted by Coach Pim Verbeek as the Aussies secured another three points to remain clear at the top of the table.

In frosty conditions, the home side were disciplined but effective and justifiably claimed all three points, with Mile Sterjovski also on target.
