Webbs easing back

Posted on: Thu 23 Oct 2008

Danny Webber believes he is playing as well as he ever has with the Blades and manager Kevin Blackwell reckons a fully fit and match sharp Webber would be a handful for anyone to cope with.

Then former Watford man said after the Southampton game that he was happy with all aspects of his performance, apart from the end product:

"Being properly fit is the key and I thought I did okay, particularly in the second-half when I seemed to see so much of the ball. Going past people is my game and I had the freedom to do that.

"I feel better than I have for a long time and now just want to play regularly - that's all any player wants and when that is the case I am happy."

Webber's United career has been punctuated by a series of injuries which have blighted his chances of forming a long partnership with anyone in the starting line-up, something Blackwell is aware of:

"His injuries have cost him and a record of playing fourteen or fifteen a season is not good enough. But a fully fit Webber is a massive plus and he has now got to stay fit, remain focused and play well. When he does that he would be an asset to any club.

"On Tuesday night he had good movement, great feet - everything but a goal. Maybe he feels he has to score regularly to stay in the time, but if he is creating chances for others then he is doing a job."
