International round-up

Posted on: Mon 13 Oct 2008

The Blades had three players in international action over the weekend, whilst another was an unused substitute.

Gary Naysmith put in a confident performance as Scotland drew 0-0 with Norway at Hampden Park. The left-back set up the best chance of the afternoon, which Chris Iwelumo missed with an open goal at his mercy.

Goalkeeper Justin Haber played as Malta creditably only lost 3-0 against Denmark, with Liverpool's Daniel Agger amongst the scorers.

David Cotterill wasn't called into action as Wales beat Lichtenstein 2-0 at the Millennium Stadium, David Edwards and Ched Evans getting on the scoresheet.

Finally, Keith Gillespie still believes Northern Ireland can qualify for the 2010 World Cup, despite losing 2-0 in Slovenia - with both goals coming within a minute late on:

"This is a group where everybody is going to beat everybody so we still have to believe we have a chance.

"We've got San Marino home and away so we need to be taking six points from them.

"Nobody would have thought the Czechs would have one point from two games so it's going to be one of those groups. We are still there, we're still fighting."
