Quinny's learning process

Posted on: Thu 04 Sep 2008

With Kevin Blackwell confident that he will be able to offset the loss of Michael Tonge through success in the loan market, one of his existing midfielders has received a tribute from his manager.

The 22 year old has started almost 50 games but although he is still to fully establish himself in the starting eleven Blackwell appreciates what Quinn can bring to the team:

"His enthusiasm is infectious and it is difficult to keep him quiet whenever he is on a football pitch - and he has a goal in him as well."

In a relatively short career the Irishman has never settled down into one position on the pitch, but his manager is happy for him to keep learning - wherever he is:

"We are trying to broaden his experience and knowledge of the game from different perspectives and in this he has undoubtedly been helped by having Gary Speed in the same side.

"Then, when Speed wasn't alongside him in centre midfield against Port Vale, we wanted Quinny to learn what a midfielder would want from his left-sided team-mate - that should help him be more effective when he himself plays on the left.

"It is all about educating players about various roles and, to be fair, the way he has dealt with that helped allow me sell Chris Armstrong because I felt I could trust him."
