Tony Currie is looking forward to seeing the man who virtually followed him to Sheffield United and then to Leeds United thirty plus years ago.

Blades legend TC left the Blades in 1976 and two years later his 'replacement' as the team's most creative talent arrived in the guise of Alex Sabella, a gifted 23 year old from Argentina.

Sabella went on to play for the Blades for two seasons, eventually moving to Elland Road as Currie had done although by then TC had moved on to QPR.

The two are set to meet on Sunday after the Bramall Lane Open Day when Sabella's Estudiantes team - Copa Libertadores champions - play the Blades in a friendly at 4pm.

"We never played in the same team because of circumstances but I obviously watched his career with interest, and played against him at the Lane when United met Leeds in a League cup-tie in October 1978.

"He was a very gifted player and hadn't been there long at that time but he already stood out as a real talent. Unitedites - like fans of most teams - love to be entertained and I suppose Alex followed the likes of Jimmy Hagan and me as the type of player who could excite them.

"It was a pity for Alex that through no fault of his own he played for two teams over here who were not at their peak because he would have been great to watch in a more successful side.
