Helping a Blade, okay!

Posted on: Fri 11 Jun 2010

A former Blades junior player and big friend of Nick Montgomery is hoping Unitedites will help him win a national competition.

Steve Spencer, now 28, was an apprentice at Bramall Lane at the same time as Montgomery, Phil Jagielka and Michael Tonge.

The central defender spent three years with the club between 1999 and 2002, playing for the youth team and reserves, before being released.

He dropped into non-league and had three seasons with FC United of Manchester before having to retire early due to hip problems.

He remains good friends with Montgomery, Jagielka and Tonge and it was the former who contacted sufc.co.uk in a bid to help Steve win OK! Magazine's Win a Wedding of a Lifetime.

Steve's girlfriend, Claire, entered them in the competition and now they have reached the final.

He explains: "It was Claire's idea, she entered us without me knowing... it wasn't until the Editor rang her to say that we were down to the final seven that she told me!

"To be honest, I was planning to propose anyway and if we won it would be the wedding of a lifetime - but we need help to win. OK! want people to text vote and the couple with the most votes wins so I'd really appreciate Blades fans assisting me."

To help Steve and Claire's bid to win a prestigious wedding, text OKVOTE7 to 80088. People can vote as many times as they like until the competition closes at midnight on Tuesday 15th June.
