Walton leaves Lane

Posted on: Sat 04 Sep 2010

Simon Walton's ill-fated loan spell with the Blades is over after United and Plymouth Argyle agreed a cancellation.

Kevin Blackwell gave the 22 year old the chance to resurrect his career at Bramall Lane in the summer and a one year loan was finalized, only for the unlucky Walton to damage cruciate knee ligaments less than halfway through the Blades' first pre-season friendly at Mansfield.

Although his rehabilitation began in Sheffield he will eventually return south when appropriate and United chief executive Trevor Birch confirmed:

"The loan has been terminated and Simon is no longer with us following talks with Plymouth."

The cancellation of the contract frees up another potential loan slot for the Blades who currently have Nyron Nosworthy and Kyle Bartley on season long agreements, whilst Walton faces months on the sidelines:

"What I've got to focus on now is getting fit again and back out there. They've told me that, hopefully, I could be okay around February time."
