No moves, but kids extend

Posted on: Tue 31 Aug 2010

Transfer deadline day did not result in the Blades doing any business - in or out of Bramall Lane - but Gary Speed still has the loan market to explore should he wish to adjust his squad.

The new United boss had indicated that he would like to add a pacy player to his attacking options but also that he would not be crestfallen if it didn't happen.

With Premiership clubs set to offload some of their assets on loan when they have to finalise their 25 man squads on Wednesday of this week, there is likely to be some jostling for position by outfits wanting to add quality to their own rosters.

Meanwhile, three of United's Academy graduates have had their short term contracts extended until the end of June 2011.

Locals Jordan Chapell, Connor Brown (currently carrying a cruciate ligament injury) and Kingsley James have all figured to some degree in pre-season although Speed is quick to point out that their development must be sustained:

"They have done really well and coped with the increased demand of stepping up to training on a regular basis with the first team.

"They have impressed in getting where they are at the moment but they have also got a lot of work ahead of them to continue progress."
