Sheffield United Football Club are saddened to learn of the death of Guido de Marco, a former President of Malta.

Blades Chairman, Kevin McCabe, commented: "Of course, we have a very special relationship with the island of Malta, our club sponsor, and we would like to pass on our sincere condolences to Mr de Marco's family, friends and the Maltese people."

Mr de Marco was the sixth President of Malta, in office between 1999 and 2004.

As a mark of respect, the Maltese flags at Bramall Lane will fly at half mast for Saturday's game with Queens Park Rangers.
