Eyeing Premiership return

Posted on: Tue 10 Aug 2010

United's Stephen Jordan says the club's stature and ambition were two contributory factors to his move.

Jordan has penned a one-year deal at the Lane following his release from Turf Moor, as the Blades secured the defender's signature despite interest from Portsmouth, and the former Claret insists it was a decision that was never in doubt:

"This is a great move for me, I left Burnley on a free transfer and when Sheffield United came in with an offer there were no questions asked.

"I went on the pre-season to America with Portsmouth, training with them with a view to signing, but once United showed an interest my choice was made because it was a far better option."

The left-back made 25 appearances in the top-flight last season and admits that is where he wants to return, believing United have the main ingredient to succeed in the Championship:

"This is a massive club with aspirations to be in the Premier League. That is where everybody wants to be and it is where I want to play, and that is the main reason I came here.

"The key in this division is consistency. If you can get on a good winning run then you can shoot up the table, but that can also work the other way, too.

"One of the main positives here is experience, a lot of the lads know what winning promotion is about and they have already tasted top-flight football."
