International project success +freePlayer

Posted on: Fri 30 Jul 2010

The unique nature of Sheffield United's international links are showing great promise for the future following the recent success of four teenagers linking up with the Blades.

Vass Mate and Andras Gardos from Ferencvaros and Central Coast Mariners duo, Marc Warren and Trent Sainsbury, have been training with United's first team and development squads for the past two weeks and have widely impressed the Bramall Lane coaches.

A short clip from each player is available to watch for free to the right. Subscribers can watch the whole feature, together with the views of Chief Executive Trevor Birch on BladesPlayer.TV

All four players are highly rated in the home countries, as they are key members in their respective development squads and on the verges of the first team for Fradi and the Mariners. The quartet, pictured with United CEO Trevor Birch, came down to Bramall Lane to visit the stadium and see the pitch which they hope to play on in the near future.

Mr Birch said: "It has been a great success and hopefully this is the first of many visits. These lads represent some of the best talent we have over in Hungary and Australia, it has been a great experience for them to come here and hopefully it will repeated, with them or some others.

"The size of Sheffield United has really impressed them and when they are back home I am sure they will spread the message, it can only help us in the future if people think so positively about this club.

"Kevin McCabe is behind the initial thinking with regards to the international setup. We are searching the world for talent and we have this advantage with our clubs and we have to make the most of it."

United's Development Coach, Mark Smith, has worked closely with the youngsters and has been impressed with their ability: "All four have made favourable impressions during training sessions and the practice matches that they have played in.

"They have all got their strengths, which is why they were selected to come here initially, but we were delighted with their work ethic and their willingness to learn."

The visit of these players highlights the great opportunity on offer in linking with these partner clubs. All clubs in the group are working together on the development of a coordinated strategy of player movements to aid youth development and identify the best talent in each country.
