Friday is D-Day for triallists

Posted on: Thu 22 Jul 2010

The triallist defenders who played for United at Burton on Tuesday night have little time left to convince Kevin Blackwell that he should take them on permanently.

Shaleum Logan, Gregory Vignal and Kerrea Gilbert all featured at various stages but the United boss is determined to bring in the right reinforcements and seems set to continue the search:

"I doubt any of them will sign but we have got to try and unearth a little diamond somewhere and we keep looking. We know who we want and Trevor Birch has worked exceptionally hard to get the players in and we continue to do that.

"When you look at the players we have brought I want people to regard them as good signings that will improve the squad for some time to come.

"The three we have this week have got work to do yet and the trial has to end sooner or later so Friday is their D-day.

"We are still two or three players short and the identifying part has been done so it is trying to get them that is the difficult process. But the interest in them is significant - as it was with Nyron Nosworthy, which shows they are good players."
