Simon's chance to shine +freePlayer

Posted on: Wed 07 Jul 2010

Simon Walton says he is ready banish memories of his past and take full advantage of what he describes as an unbelievable opportunity in joining the Blades.

United's newest recruit has arrived on a season-long loan from Plymouth Argyle and after seeing his career go not go to plan in the last couple of years, the utility man is desperate to repay United's trust in him.

"It is an unbelievable opportunity considering where I was last season. To get this chance was too good to pass up and now I must make the most of it.

"The Gaffer has shown a lot of faith in me and I am delighted to have been given the chance to come to a club like this, given the stature and ambition, and I feel more than capable of playing at this level.

"The word potential has been used a lot throughout my career, but now is the time to put the words into action. I have grown up a lot recently and done a lot of self-reflecting. This opportunity is my last chance and I am adamant that I am going to grab it with both hands."

The former Leeds trainee says he owes Crewe, and in particular Dario Gradi, plenty of gratitude after a loan spell at Gresty Road last term, which made the 22-year-old realise it was time to get his house in order:

"I have suffered a nightmare last couple of years to be honest. I had a couple of serious injuries, a poor disciplinary record and more managers than hot meals, but I didn't help myself either.

"Playing in League Two was a good kick up the backside and one I really needed. I am fully focused now on reaching the standards that have always been expected of me."
