Britton's bid for greatness

Posted on: Fri 18 Jun 2010

Leon Britton is aiming to live up to his manager's billing and believes he can reach the Premiership with United.

Britton is no stranger to Bramall Lane, having featured for the Swans in the penultimate game of last season, and the midfielder felt the performance by Kevin Blackwell's troops on that day - the Blades running out worthy 2-0 winners - demonstrated exactly what the club was about.

"Sheffield United have always had a good team, they were unlucky with injuries last season, but when they got a settled side together they showed how strong they were," said Britton after signing for the Blades on a three-year deal from 1 July.

"One of the main things is they have players who can score goals and that is crucial to get out of this division."

The 27-year-old adds: "It is great that the Gaffer thinks so highly of me and he has been fantastic since I started talking to the club. To be referred to as the missing link is a big compliment and I want to repay the faith that he has placed in me.

"Some of the players here have tasted the highest level and it will be an honour to play alongside them for Sheffield United, as we all strive to get this club back into the top-flight."
