February 2010
On the first day of the month - transfer deadline day - United were rocked as the coach pulled out of Bramall Lane headed for Watford as Spurs got in contact to recall Kyle Walker.
The young defender had been in fine form in the first half of the campaign but he had to watch from the sidelines at Vicarage Road as a makeshift defence, which included Nyron Nosworthy making his debut and Chris Morgan limping off in the first half, were put under the cosh as Watford recorded a 3-0 win.
Back at the Lane, United conceded a home league goal for the first time in 592 minutes as Robbie Savage gave Derby the lead but Lee Williamson's injury-time leveller against his hometown club secured a point.
A narrow reversal at Preston, where Kyle Bartley made his debut and Mark Yeates netted his first Blades goal, followed before United secured a first win in five games at home to Bristol City, where Henri Camara and Darius Henderson were the goalscorers.
Controversy reigned during an away fixture at Nottingham Forest, when Henderson was shown a red card for an off the ball incident but United remained in contention for a top six spot with a victory in February's final fixture.
Jamie Ward netted twice in a 4-3 home victory over Plymouth Argyle but the headlines were about Richard Cresswell's cheeky goal, when he sneaked from behind goalkeeper David Stockdale before slotting into an unguarded net.
