Blades bring in Ertl

Posted on: Tue 08 Jun 2010

The Blades have brought in another international as part of their squad-building process for next season.

Following up the signing of Maltese international striker Daniel Bogdanovic, they have completed the signature of Johnny Ertl - who has seven caps for Austria.

Ertl, 27, played for Crystal Palace in both fixtures against United last season and has signed a two year deal following his release from the Championship outfit which still avoided relegation despite a hefty points deduction.

Earlier in his career, Ertl, who can play either in midfield or defence, represented Sturm Graz and Austria Vienna back in his homeland, and Kevin Blackwell sees him as a very useful addition:

"He's a good lad who can do a very solid job at right-back, central midfield and even at centre-half. And he has played enough times in the Championship for me to know he can come in and do it for us here."

Ertl and Bogdanovic, both familiar with Championship, will join Kevin Blackwell's squad on 1st July, whilst Richard Cresswell, Nick Montgomery and Chris Morgan have all signed extended contracts.

He will become the first Austrian to play for the Blades.
