January 2010

Richard Cresswell's reputation with Unitedites grew considerably in the early weeks, thanks to goals in four of January's six game.

His personal purple patch against QPR continued, scoring the goal that secured a 1-1 third round draw at Bramall Lane and then being influential in the replay win at Loftus Road, where Jamie Ward scored with his first touch and set up Cresswell with his second.

Cresswell then scored the goal that secured a deserved home success over Middlesbrough - stooping to convert Andy Taylor's cross - whilst he was rested for the fourth round FA Cup tie at Bolton, where the Premiership side progressed.

Back in the league, United moved into the top six thanks to a 3-0 home success over Reading, where Mark Yeates made his bow. Jonathan Fortune netted on his home debut, Cresswell continued his rich vein and Chris Morgan was also on target, whilst Mark Bunn was called upon to make a string of fine saves, including one from the penalty spot.

However, January ended with a defeat when a dodgy penalty award handed West Brom the initiative whilst a deflected goal also helped as United slipped to a 3-1 defeat.
