November 2009
The month kicked off with another defeat - although there were positives in the narrow 1-0 reversal to title-challenging Newcastle, who were reliant on their goalkeeper and a deflected goal to earn the points at the Lane.
It was Darius Henderson who was denied by a last-gasp Steve Harper save in the game against the Magpies but the Blades striker was about to hit a purple patch.
Donning the captain's armband in the absence of suspended skipper Chris Morgan, Henderson held his nerve to score two penalties that earned the Blades a point in the televised derby at Barnsley.
Henderson missed the next game, a narrow home victory over Peterborough when Henri Camara scored his first goal for the club on his full debut and the recalled Mark Bunn saved a penalty. But the powerful striker did return with maximum effect for the trip to Bristol City at the end of the month.
United gave a debut to new loan goalkeeper Carl Ikeme and he was impressive on his bow, although it was Henderson who grabbed the headlines with all three goals in a 3-2 win.
It looked like Alvaro Saborio's goal five minutes into injury-time had earned City a 2-2 draw but United went back up the field and after Kyel Reid's shot was blocked, in-form Henderson was ideally placed to net his first senior treble and help the Blades to keep in touch with the top ten in the Championship.
