Bunn returns to Ewood

Posted on: Wed 17 Mar 2010

Mark Bunn has been recalled by Blackburn Rovers, leaving Kevin Blackwell with yet another dilemma.

The goalkeeper played his last game in a Blades shirt in the 3-0 success over Blackpool on Tuesday night before returning to Ewood Park.

A calf injury to Blackburn number one Paul Robinson has left Sam Allardyce with just Jason Brown as cover. The Rovers boss wanted to recall Bunn on Monday but was convinced by counterpart Blackwell to allow him to play in Tuesday's game.

Coach Gary Speed said after the midweek victory: "He signed off with a clean sheet and we thank him for what he has done - but his departure means another upheaval.

"The options are to try for a loan, play Ian Bennett, or Mihkel Aksalu, who has a great work ethic and is very promising and playing in the Reserves at Macclesfield on Wednesday. I will watch him but it might be unfair to throw him straight in."

Bunn, 25, played a total of 35 games for the Blades, which included 11 clean sheets.
