Sing it again Blades

Posted on: Wed 21 Apr 2010

The popularity of the singing section on The Kop at the Coventry City means it is likely to repeated for the final home game of the season against Swansea, and hopefully next season.

About 80 Sheffield United fans grouped together singing and chanting throughout the game - including a first time effort at the "Dale" chant made famous by Italian side Cavese.

Dale Cavese originates from the Italian football club Società Sportiva Cavese 1919 based in Cava de'Tirreni, Campania. Founded in 1919, Cavese currently play in Lega Pro Prima having last been in Serie B in 1984.

However, their fans have become famous for their chant song "Dale Cavese" ("Come On Cavese") which has been copied and adapted across Europe and in North America

"The singing section made a noticeable difference to the atmosphere inside the ground," said Operations Director Simon Argall.

"Those fans that took part seemed to enjoy themselves, and we are hoping to meet the organisers this week for a review, and if possible look to do the same again for the final game of the season.

"It may even be possible that if enough fans support it, for the section to become a permanent feature, although we are aware it is not to everyone's taste and we still have to satisfy the safety authorities. However it is well worth checking out YouTube to see what the Dale chant can sounds like when sung by thousands, " added Simon.

Meanwhile, United are reminding season ticket holders that the deadline for renewals is fast approaching.

Blades fans have until Saturday 17 April to renew their existing season tickets from £299 - a saving of £138 on match day prices. Free season tickets will be available to existing U13s when purchased with an adult ticket and £10 Junior Blades membership.
