Defender deal agreed

Posted on: Wed 30 Dec 2009

The Blades are set to reinforce their squad ahead of Sunday FA Cup tie against QPR, with experienced Championship defender Marcel Seip expected to sign on loan until the end of the season from Plymouth Argyle.

Seip has recently completed a successful loan stint at Blackpool, where he scored for the Tangerines in their 3-0 victory over the Blades at Bloomfield Road in October.

During his time in Lancashire, the Dutchman started seven games for Ian Holloway's men, which added to his six appearances for the Pilgrims.

The 27-year-old, who is comfortable in a number of positions across the backline, began his career in his native Holland with BV Veendam, before moving to SC Heerenveen in 2001.

During his time at the Abe Lenstra Stadion, Seip played in the UEFA Cup and Intertoto Cup, before arriving at Home Park following an unsuccessful trial at Spartak Moscow.

His deal at the Lane - which should be rubber-stamped on 1st January - will expire on 2nd May although United can extend the loan should they be involved in the play-offs.
