Blades clinch awards brace
Sheffield United scored a brace of accolades at last night's 2009 Sheffield Business Awards.
The Blades became the first ever winner of the Williams Fasteners Excellence in Sports Services Award, while the club's community outreach division, The United Initiative, won the Freeman College Community Impact Award.
Heavy engineering specialists DavyMarkham was named the Barclays Commercial Bank Outstanding Business of the Year at the awards, while managing director Kevin Parkin clinched the Rensburg Sheppards Business Person of the Year Award.
To complete a magical night for DavyMarkham, the Darnall based company also received the Creative Sheffield, Sheffield Champion Award, for their work in promoting the city's manufacturing history, development and ability to produce world class products.
MTL Group also won two awards for manufacturing and international trade, while Andrew Seaton was named the Sheffield Hallam University Young Business Person of the Year. Andrew began Resolve IT Solutions in 2004 and in the past year has doubled turnover, increased profitability by 40per cent and grown the team by 60per cent.

Additional winners included Insight Direct UK, Specsavers at Crystal Peaks, Sheffield International Venues, ZOO Digital, AG Wind Power, Kitlocker.com and the Office Friendly Dealer Association.
Organised by the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, a total of 38 companies made up the shortlist for the 15 categories in what is one of the biggest business events in Sheffield. Broadcast star Paul Ross was the compere throughout the awards, which were sponsored by Yorkshire Forward and Edge Telecom.

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year trophy was on show at the event to recognise Sheffield staging the televised national awards on 13th December.
Nigel Tomlinson, chief executive of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, said: "The Chamber is very proud to showcase the skills, entrepreneurial spirit and achievements of Sheffield businesses in these awards during what has been a testing and demanding year.
"We are aware of many businesses still achieving great success despite the economic climate. This is clearly evident in the record number of applications we received this year and the creation of a strong shortlist of companies from a wide range of sectors."
