Posted on: Fri 13 Nov 2009

At its meeting in Preston yesterday, Football League Chairman Lord Mawhinney informed the League Board of his decision to stand down from the Chairmanship on 15th March 2010, after more than seven years in the role.

Ian Ritchie, the Board's other independent director will oversee the process to select a new Chairman, which will include consultation with League clubs.

Lord Mawhinney said: "It has been a privilege to serve The Football League. I have greatly enjoyed the challenge of helping to shape a better League and I am grateful for all the support that I have received.

"This timetable will give my successor the opportunity to develop League policy for the 2010/11 season."
