Sheffield United director Simon McCabe will be pounding the streets of New York this week - after being 'stitched-up' by former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan.
He will be taking part in the New York marathon on Sunday where his efforts will help raise at least £12,500 for The Children's Hospital in Sheffield.
Simon, who plans to run in a Sheffield United 120th anniversary shirt, will be accompanied by Louise Speed, wife of Sheffield United coach Gary Speed, and close friend Roddy Mackay.
Watching them and the other 37,000 runners on the route through the five boroughs of New York City will be a party of 16 Sheffield United friends and followers, including Simon's parents Kevin and Sandra McCabe.
"I was persuaded to take part by Michael Vaughan - who is a patron of the hospital's charity. He said he would do it, if I did and look what's happened. He's not taking part and I am! I guess he stitched me up!" said Simon who will be taking part in his third New York Marathon.
Simon added: "Training and sponsorship have gone well. All three of us are confident of completing the course. We are delighted with the support we have received and cannot thank sponsors enough for their generosity and encouragement."
The New York marathon is one of the largest in the world and attracts elite runners as well as charity fundraisers from all over the globe.
David Vernon-Edwards, Director of The Children's Hospital Charity, said: "We are absolutely delighted that the team from Sheffield United have decided to take on the New York Marathon to help raise funds for the BBC Sheffield Kids' Scanner Appeal.
"I know the team have been training really hard and have got a fantastic amount of sponsorship for the event. I wish them all the best on the day and want to say a huge thank you for their support on behalf of all our young patients."
