Sheffield United this afternoon paid tribute to Dave Kilner - one of 'the voices' of the club - who died earlier today.

A former Hallam FM (Radio Hallam) presenter, Dave, aged 48, had been ill for a period of time.

Over three decades he became synonymous with the Blades as a matchday announcer as well as being involved in many of the events held at the club.

"Dave was respected throughout the city and was always a popular character at Bramall Lane," said corporate director Andy Daykin who first recruited him to the club.

"He was a great personality who always had the Blades at heart and was to become a close personal friend. Dave became the voice of Sheffield United and many supporters will remember him as one of the first pitch side match day announcers.

"He will be sadly missed by many at the home of football and indeed by those whose lives he touched throughout his career," added Andy.
