Stewart in, Hendrie out

Posted on: Tue 01 Sep 2009

Experienced Premiership performer Jordan Stewart is United's first capture on transfer deadline day.

The versatile left-sided player, latterly with Derby County, has been brought in with Lee Hendrie moving to Pride Park as part of the deal.

Kevin Blackwell commented: "Jordan can play in a number of positions down the left and gives us variety. I think he will prove to be a good acquisition and offers us further competition for places."

Stewart and Hendrie have terminated their contracts with the Rams and United respectively to enable the swap to take place.

Stewart, 27, has played a substantial number of games in the Premiership with Leicester and Watford, but has not featured under Nigel Clough at Derby this term. He has made over 200 league starts after coming through the Leicester youth system.

Hendrie, meanwhile, made just 26 appearances in his two years with the Blades due to injuries and suspensions.

Blackwell and his management team are still hard at work at Bramall Lane and there could be further movement before the transfer window shuts at 5pm on Tuesday.
