Kevin Blackwell has made Ched Evans his highest profile signing so far this summer when he was unveiled as part of a triple signing.
The in demand 20 year old Manchester City striker has commanded a £3million fee and has been joined by Blackburn winger Keith Treacy who is on a long-term loan, along with Sheffield born, former Hull City player Ryan France who has penned a two year deal.
With Leigh Bromby also signing a permanent contract after ending last season on loan with the Blades, Blackwell has now brought his total of new recruits this summer to seven.
The acquisition of Evans, who has signed a three year contract, is a major signal of intent and Blackwell explains:
"He's a young striker and we are delighted to have won the race for him because there was significant interest in him from two Premiership clubs and two from the Championship.
"We think the lad has a bright future and felt that it was only right to invest some of the money from the sale of two of our star youngsters into the signing of another.
"He is still maturing, still learning the game, so there is more developmental mileage in him which will benefit this club in the long term as well.
"With plenty of first team experience for City in the UEFA Cup last season he is an exciting prospect and City were reluctant to let him go.
"But, they are clearly going down a different road now and, good as he is, he would have found it difficult to get a regular game with the likes of Robinho, Tevez, Santa Cruz, Bellamy and Adebayor in front of him.
"I think our fans will take to him and give him the welcome he needs to help him hit the ground running."
