Trialist Glen Little is looking forward to joining in when United's pre-season training kicks off on Friday.

The former Burnley and Reading winger was released by Premiership Portsmouth this week and has been invited to train with the Blades with the aim of securing a deal.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, the 33-year-old said: "I'm coming up for the first couple of weeks of pre-season and that includes the trip to Malta.

"I got a phone call from Sam (Ellis), who I have known for a long time, and he said come up and let's see how you get on.

"I want to get my career going again and Sam has told me that it's a good club. I've had plenty of battles with Sheffield United over the years, it's always a good atmosphere at the ground.

"I thought the club were unlucky in the attempt to get back in the Premier League last season.

"I watched the final against Burnley, one of my old clubs, and it was unfortunate that they scored a wondergoal - they had scored two wondergoals against Reading in the semi-final.

"This is a great chance to do a bit of training and get fit. I know a few of the lads, I've played against most and I'm sure I'll be able to settle in quite easily.

"I know Darius well and met a few of the lads at the end of the season when we both got promoted because we went away to the same place.

"We've got the trip away coming up, we'll get some training under our belts and see where we go from there."

He clocked up more than 250 appearances in a seven-year spell with Burnley and finished last season on loan at Reading, on loan from Portsmouth.
