The date for United's Carling Cup first round encounter with Port Vale has been announced.

For the second year running, the Blades face the Valiants in the League Cup. The match will be played at Bramall Lane on Tuesday 11th August, kick-off 7.45pm.

Last year United won 3-1 against their League Two opponents. Lee Hendrie, Stephen Quinn and Danny Webber were the names on the scoresheet.

For the record Vale are now managed by self-confessed Blades fan Micky Adams.
