Paddy, Quinny and Kyle highly ranked

Posted on: Wed 10 Jun 2009

The Blades have three representatives in the top 25 of the Championship Actim Index, and the trio were all in the top five for their respective positions.

The Actim Index is the official player rankings index for the Coca-Cola Championship.

It is statistically proven to identify the best players regardless of position by taking into account positive contributions within a game, as well as team results.

United's number one Paddy Kenny finished 4th in the goalkeeping charts and 15th overall, with Preston North End's Andy Lonergan claiming first place for the shotstoppers.

Academy graduate Kyle Naughton was deemed the 5th best defender in the division and his Index score of 545 saw him claim 21st spot overall.

Burnley's skipper Graham Alexander was ranked the top defender, although he would have gained extra points through his penalty taking responsibilities.

Irishman Stephen Quinn was also 5th in the midfield category and his overall position was 16th. Tommy Smith of Watford headed the list in this section and was second overall.

Sylvain Ebanks-Blake, who netted 25 Championship goals for Wolves was the number one striker and claimed the overall first position in the Index, whilst Kevin Doyle and Jason Scotland were the second and third best strikers respectively.

The index is based upon Actim Stats - The Official Stats of The Football League - and is produced by PA Sport in conjunction with Football Dataco.

They are derived from all the actions that take place during a match, including goals, shots on target, corners, fouls, offsides, passes, tackles, blocks and clearances.
