Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Mick McCarthy picked up the first managerial award of the new season today after being named Coca-Cola Championship Manager of the Month for August.

McCarthy's side have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, with three wins and a draw from their opening four league fixtures.

They began their campaign with a well earned point away at Plymouth Argyle and followed that up with home wins against Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest, and three points at Ipswich Town. As a result, McCarthy's men sit top of the table going into September.

Also short-listed for the August award were Alex McLeish of Birmingham City, Gary Johnson of Bristol City and Alan Irvine of Preston North End.

Nigel Pearson of Leicester City won the award in League 1 and Mark Robins of Rotherham United was given the League 2 accolade.
