Triple injury blow

Posted on: Sun 27 Apr 2008

The win over Bristol City that kept play-off hopes came at a heavy cost as United look to cap a remarkable run-in at Southampton next Sunday.

James Beattie, Ugo Ehiogu and Lee Martin - all replaced by the time the second-half began - are rated as very doubtful for next Sunday's decider at relegation haunted Southampton.

"Beattie felt his calf in the warm-up and was in trouble as soon as he made his first sprint in the game. Ugo was struggling with his calf and as soon as he got turned for the penalty he also knew he had gone," bemoaned Kevin Blackwell, who added:

"Lee Martin has damaged his ankle ligaments and, as it stands, all three are massive long shots to be fit in time."

With Chris Morgan still suspended, Ehiogu's potential absence could be the biggest headache, especially with Chris Lucketti out on loan...at Southampton!
